Ride Your Elevator Pitch To The Top Floor

This week’s tip is about pitching. Not baseball, business. The all-important elevator pitch. And here are three ways to make yours memorable.

One: find a differentiator. There are plenty of lawyers and doctors and even media coaches. What specifically makes YOU better at what you do then everyone else doing it? What do you offer that nobody else does and why do people need your services? Figure out the answer to those questions and include them in your pitch.

Two: be passionate about your pitch. Believe in it. If you’re not passionate about what you do, your audience won’t be either. You’re not just a plumber, you’re A PLUMBER. You’re not a real estate agent, you’re THE PERSON WHO FINDS PEOPLE HOMES. I’m not saying scream these words, I just mean you should say them with pride. You must deliver your pitch with energy and pride.

And three: memorize your pitch but make sure it doesn’t sound memorized. Change a word every now and then, use a different example, make tweaks so every time you say it to somebody, it sounds fresh and authentic. You should commit it to memory because if you have trouble explaining what you do, the person you’re talking to will lose interest. But if you make it sound robotic, like you’re reading it off a paper, that won’t resonate either. This will require some practice but it will pay off for you!
